Four Ledbury care workers have been celebrated for their “inspiring” work over the past year.

Shaw healthcare’s Central Regional Star Awards took place at Leadon Bank Extra Care in Ledbury to honour care home residents, staff and visitors.

Four of the winners are based in Ledbury, across three different care facilities – Ledbury Health and Community Care Centre, Ledbury ICU and Leadon Bank Day Care.

Caroline Merrick, a senior support worker at Leadon Bank Day Care, was presented with the Shining Star Award.

She was singled out for her ability to “inspire and motivate”, along with her “infectious” sense of humour that helps create a relaxed and friendly environment for residents.

Rebecca George, from Ledbury ICU, was handed the Wellness/Happiness/Kindness Award.

A popular member of staff, who many new staff request to work with, Rebecca was praised for showing “compassion and understanding” to all residents.

Lisa Carne, a cook at Ledbury Health and Community Care Centre, won the Culinary Star Award, after receiving a lot of nominations. Described as the heart of the care home, Lisa is known for regularly coming into work on her days off to cover the kitchen.

'Wonderful to see achievements of staff'

Lisa’s colleague at Ledbury Health and Community Care Centre, Colin Robb, was awarded the Service Support Award.

Colin was praised for his willingness to help others, as someone who “always gets the job done” – and forever has a smile on his face.

In total, seven awards were handed out to employees across seven care facilities in the central region. The winners will now go through a selection process, with some going through as finalists at the National Shaw Star Awards in November.

The awards were presented by Shaw healthcare’s regional director Stacey Meredith and operations manager Rachael Glover-Winfield.

Ms Meredith said: “It was wonderful to celebrate the awe-inspiring achievements of our dedicated staff members across Shaw’s care facilities in the Midlands.

“Despite the huge pressures the pandemic has created for our sector, our staff have remained resolute in delivering high quality care for our residents.

“They are the best of our country, and we are very lucky to have them in our Shaw family.”

Winners received certificates and hampers, while runner-ups were handed certificates and gift bags.
