The headteacher of a village school is saying goodbye after nine years.

Maggie Spence, who took over at Bosbury CE Primary School in 2014, paid tribute to “a wonderful school”.

In her last week as headteacher, Miss Spence opened a new pond at the school, which children will be able to enjoy for years to come.

She did it surrounded by Year Six pupils she has seen grow throughout her time at Bosbury.

Miss Spence said her fondest memory of Bosbury will be the creativity of pupils, adding that she has seen them grow in confidence over the years.

She also paid tribute to the “fantastic team of teachers” at the school.

“A huge thankyou to our PTA FOBS who have made the pond a reality,” she said. “Bosbury is a wonderful school, full of wonderfully talented, caring adults who put the most into everything they do.

“I will enjoy watching Bosbury from afar. Thank you to all the parents and children who have been at Bosbury since April 2014, which is when I joined the school. I wish the school an exciting future.”

Reflecting on the Covid pandemic, Miss Spence said: “It was a very difficult time for families and I think we all did our best in what was a very difficult situation,” adding: “The children now are back to their sparkling best.”

Miss Spence is leaving to take up a post as schools improvement administrator and executive headteacher at the Diocese of Worcester Multi-Academy Trust.

She said the role will give her the opportunity to support multiple schools throughout Worcestershire.

At Bosbury, Ruth McManus will take over as acting headteacher in September, with Sian Dark becoming deputy headteacher.
