THE Met Office has released information on when Worcester is likely to next see rainfall.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said that it is likely for Worcester to see rain on Monday, August 15 as there will be thunderstorms across the country from 6am that day until midnight.

They said: "The thunderstorm warning, which covers Worcester, is in force from 6am on Monday through to midnight.

"The weather will continue like this on to Tuesday and Wednesday with thundery downpours and that risk does include Worcester.

"On Thursday, with the showers that should happen we could see up to 30mm of rain in an hour.

"Given the dryness of the land underneath at the moment there are surface water flooding risks.

"There is no formal warning out for Tuesday yet though.

"At the end of August there are some broad trends for the UK that we can see.

"There is a potential for persistent rain coming in from the North West and while that is not near to Worcester, it has potential to spread.

"Towards the end of the month, there will be continued changeable weather spells of showers."

The Met Office has also outlined that there is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly with this kind of rainfall, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds.

Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services

Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost.

What to do in a thunderstorm - Advice from the Met Office

  • Avoid using the landline unless in an emergency as they conduct electricity
  • Avoid water and find a low-lying place away from trees, poles or metal
  • Be aware of metal objects that can conduct/attract lightening e.g. umbrellas, golf club, bicycles, mobility scooters, push chairs
  • If in an exposed location, squat close to the ground with hands on knees and your head tucked between them. Try to touch as little of the ground as possible - do not lie down
  • If you feel your hair stand on end, drop to the above position immediately
