The only council-owned electric car charging point in Ledbury is being replaced.

Like a number of others around Herefordshire, the charge point in St Katherine’s Car Park has been replaced with a new unit that is part of the Wenea network.

The old bp Chargemaster unit has been removed and its replacement - another 7kW charger - is due to be commissioned this week.

Chargers in Etnam Street, Leominster, Mill Street, Kington, and at five locations in Hereford - the Shirehall, the council offices in Plough Lane, Herefordshire Archive and Records Centre, Venns Close car park and Garrick car park - have also been replaced.

These are all owned by Herefordshire Council and will now be run by Wenea. This means they will all now be subject to a charge.

According to Herefordshire Council: “Drivers of electric or hybrid vehicles that need to plug in and charge can get a free 30-minute parking ticket to display in their vehicle at council-owned, off-street car parks.

“The council's charge points have now been replaced and are awaiting commissioning. They are due to be commissioned week commencing October 24, 2022. Once commissioned, they will be available for use and will appear on national live maps.”

EV charging points in Herefordshire

Herefordshire’s 50kW chargers, which are located in St Martins car park in Hereford, Broad Street car park in Leominster and Edde Cross Street car park in Ross, will continue to be run by SWARCO on behalf of Highways England.

The charging points in Red Meadow Car Park in Ross and Tenbury Road car park in Bromyard are run by the respective town councils.

Ledbury’s other publicly-available EV charging points are at Tesco in The Homend. They were installed in 2019 by the supermarket in collaboration with Volkswagen.

Herefordshire Council runs an EV drivers email group - you can opt-in to get updates from the group by emailing energy@herefordshire.gov.uk, putting EV Drivers Group in the subject line.

Government grants are available for people wanting to install their own electric vehicle charging points - search EV chargepoint grant for more details.
