A WEATHER warning for snow and ice has been expanded in Herefordshire.

The Met Office yellow warning for snow and ice yesterday covered western parts of the county until 12pm today.

But this morning the warning has been expanded to cover most of Herefordshire.

It has also been extended to remain in force until midday tomorrow (January 19).

The Met Office said showers will affect the warning area, falling as a mix of rain and hail near coasts, and sleet and snow inland at times, mainly overnight.

"This will lead to some temporary snow accumulations at low levels, whilst higher ground of Northern Ireland and Wales in particular, could see a further 2-5 cm of snow," the Met Office said.

Forecasters warned that ice will be the hazard for most parts of the warning area.

What to expect

  • The Met Office said some roads and railways may be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services
  • Some injuries are possible from slips and falls on icy surfaces
  • Icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths
