FIREFIGHTERS were called to the rescue after a 25-year-old horse fell and could not get up at the weekend.

Bromyard fire station's large animal team were called in to help firefighters from Bromsgrove after cob horse George fell in a building on Saturday (April 22).

A spokesperson for Bromyard fire station said vet Jo, from Field Equine Vets, at called fire control to request assistance after she was called to George's aid.

"By the time the first crew arrived, George had already been given some sedation to keep him calm," the spokespersons said.

"Using specialist equipment that we carry on the fire appliance for animal rescue, a plan was put in place to get George out of the building, then with the support of a local farmer and his tractor George was lifted to his feet."

Happily, after a short time, George was able to stand on his own and the strops were removed.

George was given a full check over by Jo and given a clean bill of health, before heading out to enjoy the grass the next day.
