HEREFORDSHIRE-based TV personality Richard Hammond’s new show has been cancelled by Channel 4 after only seven episodes.

Series one of Crazy Contraptions, which aired last year, challenged teams to build ingenious machines out of everyday objects.

However, the show will not be proceeding to series two, with a spokesperson for Channel 4 telling The Sun: “Richard Hammond’s Crazy Contraptions was a bold and creative programme that engaged audiences with exciting science and engineering. Our strategy continues to be one that develops new formats and exciting ideas.

OTHER NEWS:

Hammond, 53, lives at Bollitree Castle, a Grade II listed building in Weston-under-Penyard, near Ross-on-Wye.

The former Top Gear presenter also runs a classic car restoration business based in Rotherwas.

In each episode of Crazy Contraptions, two teams were given the same set of household objects in the same workshops and had to build their own chain-reaction machines designed to complete mundane tasks.

The inspiration for the series, which can still be watched on All4, came from Hammond’s attempt to make his own chain-reaction machine during the Covid-19 lockdown.

Last year, Hammond told Metro: “It’s great to see the different approaches to complex engineering projects and watching people do something they’re passionate about is always compelling.”

However, fans will get to see Hammond onscreen again soon, as a new episode of the Grand Tour will be released on Amazon Prime next month.

The episode, called Eurotrash, will follow him and his fellow presenters Jeremy Clarkson and James May on a 1,400-mile journey across Europe.
