TRIBUTES have been paid to a West Mercia Police chief inspector who died at his home.

Ch Insp Chris Smith died in Hereford on Sunday, July 25.

Emotional tributes have been paid to Ch Insp Smith by his West Mercia colleagues and policing peers across the country.

A West Mercia spokesperson said: "We are deeply saddened to share the death of a Chief Inspector in our Special Constabulary.

"Chris Smith sadly died at his home in Hereford on Sunday. He joined our Special Constabulary in 2003 and was widely known and respected throughout the force and beyond.

"Our deepest condolences to all who knew Chris. Our thoughts are with his family. RIP Chris, your duty is done."

Special constabulary chief officer for Cheshire Police Specials Leon Boland said: "Sending our love and thoughts to you all, especially to our West Mercia Specials colleagues, from your neighbours over the border here at Cheshire Police and Cheshire Police Specials."

Scott Dawson, Kent Police tactical operations acting specials chief inspector for specialist teams and capabilities, said: "My thoughts are with his family and friends."

The Lincolnshire Police Drones Team said: "Thank you for your service, sir. Our thoughts are with family and colleagues at this difficult time."
