FIVE fire engines rushed to reports of a fire in a Leominster street.

Crews from Leominster, Kingsland, Tenbury, and Hereford fire stations were sent to the Herefordshire town at 3.51pm yesterday (July 31) after a "house fire with persons" was reported in Etnam Street.

They were joined at the scene by the incident command unit and drone from the Wyre Forest.

A fire service spokesperson said that the fire was in a derelict building comprising four flats, one of which, on the first floor, was well alight.

The fire was fought using three extended hosereel jets and one main jet with two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus. Gas and electrics were isolated.

West Midlands Ambulance Service and West Mercia Police also attended with police taking care of traffic management while Etnam Street was closed in both directions.

With the fire put out, crews continued damping down hot spots through the evening.

There were no casualties, with four children initially reported at the scene all accounted for as safe and well.

A re-inspection was carried out at 3am on August 1 before the incident was marked as closed,
