A scheme that allows people to share surplus fruit is set to open at the start of September.

The Fruit for Free scheme has been established by Colwall Orchard Group’s Jilly Rosser.

It is an online noticeboard where fruit tree growers can publish details of any surplus fruit, and those who’d like to receive fruit can get in touch directly.

“It’s that time of year when those fortunate enough to have fruit trees in their gardens can often find they have far too much fruit,” said a spokesperson for Colwall Orchard Group.

“Apples, pears, plums, and many other fruits, have been cooked, canned, frozen, made into jams and sauces, yet there’s still more fruit to be harvested.

“If there’s one thing fruit growers love, and that is to share their home-grown harvest to ensure no fruit is ever wasted.”
