A pub near Ledbury is holding a comedy night next month.

The Royal Oak in Much Marcle, which has been hosting regular and successful drag nights, is now selling tickets for its comedy night on Saturday, October 7.

“With Ukraine, the cost of living crisis and dodgy concrete in our schools there really doesn't seem to be much to laugh at these days, does there?,” said landlady Hannah Slade.

“We feel exactly the same and are doing our bit by holding a comedy night.”

The show will feature London Comedy Store regular Roger Monkhouse’s, whose trademark stage-prowling style and curious, inimitable manner have established him as one of the safest pair of hands on the comedy circuit.

Supremely confident, with audience banter down to an art form, Roger is happy to improvise freely but has no shortage of first class material in his armoury. A master of observational comedy with routines that are universally and unfailingly hysterical.

Tony Burgess has been making a living from stand up comedy since his teens.

An obsessive writer from an early age, ‘Great, well crafted gags’ (The Times) are the hallmarks of Tony’s scintillating sets.

Whether it’s musings on the Madchester days of yore or surreal takes on contemporary family life, all gags and routines come in Tony’s trademark Mancunian jackdaw delivery.

Lancashire's Rob Riley will be hosting the proceedings and tickets are priced at £15 each from the pub or online at www.royaloakmarcle.co.uk.

Pre-show dining is available for anyone wishing to push the boat out and you can book now on 01531 660300.

We reported earlier this year how the Royal Oak was reinventing itself as a wedding venue, having renovated its function room.

Hannah said the pub was going from “strength to strength” having launched a monthly quiz night and started hosting food pop-ups.

It has since added Bright Night drag queen nights to its regular calendar of events.
