Readers have revealed what they think is the most dangerous road junction in the area.

We asked Ledbury Reporter readers on Facebook for their opinions - and most people came back with the same answer.

It seems the slip road at junction 2 of the M50 is high on motorists’ lists of junctions to avoid - especially when turning right onto the A417 towards Ledbury.

Paul Fletcher said: “I drive a HGV and it is very dangerous pulling out from there.

“Highways don’t control the height of the verge either, so [it is] difficult to see anything approaching from the right in a car.”

Karen Lane described the junction as the “worst exit I’ve ever come across in my years of driving”.

Jacqueline Boyes agreed: “The M50 slip road, turning right to Ledbury. Can’t see properly to the right and not at all to the left. The most dangerous junction for sure.

“Would not be that difficult or too costly to change the left hand side of this.”

And Matt Ehrlich said: “When I commuted daily the amount of times I had to swerve into the slip road to avoid a car coming out. Needs at least a speed limit across the bridge.”

Ian Doust is programme development manager at National Highways, which is responsible for the M50 and its slip roads.

He said: “Safety is our top priority and we'd like to thank the local community for raising this concern with us.

“We constantly monitor collision statistics for the whole of our road network and explore options for addressing issues where they are identified.

“We have previously delivered safety improvements to the road markings, road surface and signage on this junction and will continue to review accident data and explore whether any further intervention is needed.

“In addition we will ask our inspectors to visit the location to assess any vegetation works needed on our land, which ends at the top of the slip road, and liaise with other landowners if an issue is identified with any privately-owned hedges.”

Other roads mentioned by readers included Knapp Lane in Ledbury, the junction of the A44 and A465 in Bromyard and the A4172 at Little Marcle.
