A HEREFORDSHIRE primary school is closed today amid urgent works to restore its water supply

Brockhampton Primary School, near Bromyard, said in an announcement made last night that it will be closed on Tuesday, October 24, while the works are carried out.

No other schools in the area have confirmed that they will be closed today.

The school did not confirm the nature of the supply problem, but water supply problems have plagued Bromyard in recent weeks.

The town's Queen Elizabeth High School closed midway through the morning on October 17 after a water main burst in the town.

Traffic lights were put in place and water was seen pouring out through a crack in the road, with workmen arriving on scene that morning.

The supply was restored by 5.30pm that day, with Welsh Water apologising for the issue and warning locals that they might have cloudy or aerated water, but further problems came on Monday, October 23, when water was again seen fountaining out from the same hole and running down Old Road.

In a further message to locals, Welsh Water said they apologised that people living in the town and surrounding areas may have no water or low pressure, and that it would be restored later in the evening.

Tankers were seen in the town last night to help provide water to homes during the works.

Water has been restored to homes in the area this morning, but traffic lights remain in place on Old Road, with an open hole in the road at the site of the burst pipe.
