Ledbury is getting in the festive mood with its Christmas lights switch-on this weekend.

The fun starts at 2pm outside the town’s iconic Market House on Sunday, November 26 and runs until 6pm, with the lights themselves being switched on at 5pm.

Father Christmas will be in his grotto from 1pm to 2pm for walk-ups and DBeatz Dance Company will be performing in the ‘arena’ in St Katherine’s Car Park at 1.45pm.

The festivities will be officially launched at 2pm by the town crier and elves, then there’s performances by The Acro Chaps at 2.10pm and 3.30pm.

The Mirror Ball is on at 3.30pm, and Ledbury Brass Band and Ledbury Community Choir will perform carols under the Market House at 4.15pm.

At 5pm, Ledbury mayor Helen I’Anson will switch on the lights alongside the carnival princesses, Father Christmas and the Acro Chaps.

This will be followed by a performance by Ledbury Morris.

Throughout the afternoon, there will be free crafts in St Katherine’s Hall.

On Friday, December 1, Ledbury Traders host their annual Late Night Opening Event from 6pm to 8pm with music, dance, stalls, food and all the shops sparkling.

Brass bands, morris dancers and carol singers will provide a festive atmosphere as town centre shops give shoppers the chance to shop into the evening in Ledbury.

There will also be mulled cider on offer to help you get into the festive mood.

Traders are also taking part in Ledbury Poetry’s celebrations of John Masefield’s famous children’s book A Box of Delights.

Shops are creating window displays and Ledbury Poetry House will be open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday (November 30, December 1 and 2) as Sally Crabtree “sprinkles magic and delight” with her Sweetshop of Words.
