A vets focussing on farm animals and horses is to get a new home in a Herefordshire town.

Belmont Farm & Equine Vets has been given planning permission to convert the former Brandon Hire Station in Ross Road, Ledbury.

But given its specialism, most of the practice’s consultations will be on farms rather than “in-patient care”, its application explained.

The building was originally permitted for the sale and hire of tools when built in 1991.

Three new windows are to be added to the rear to provide daylight to new offices along with a new fire exit, and solar panels will be installed on the south-facing roof slope.

The practice will be relocating from its base in the town’s Market Street. It also has branches in Hereford and Bromyard.

Planning officer Laura Smith concluded that the move to an out of town location “would not undermine the vitality and viability of Ledbury town centre” and would “harmonise with the existing uses on the industrial estate”.

The permission allows veterinary use of the building only.
