A BIZARRE item was found wedged in a toilet waste pipe in a town's public loos, it has been revealed.

Bromyard's Tenbury Road public toilets have been closed for some time now, with drainage issues causing problems for the block.

The toilets, which have also been hit by vandals in recent times, were closed for repairs due to issues including the drainage, with portable toilets sited next to them for visitors to use, a report submitted to Bromyard Town Council's properties committee in November said.

But, documents from a meeting of the council committee in January revealed, the cause of the drainage issue has now been found, with two separate issues said to be to blame.

Bromyard councillors heard that the first, and major, issue was the drains directly underneath the toilets, but the second issue was a blockage in the drains running under the town's leisure centre, behind the toilet block.

"Following several conversations with Welsh Water, a team from Welsh Water investigated further and a blockage was indeed found in the drains that go under the Leisure Centre," a report presented to the council said.

"A large piece of material and a roof tile were lodged in the drain system, we were advised the blockage had been there for some time."

The report did not speculate as to how a roof tile had found its way into the sewer beneath the leisure centre.

The committee heard that the blockage had now been removed and the drains are flowing freely, but that temporary toilets remain in place while the toilet block is closed pending refurbishment.
