The Heritage Centre, based in The Old Grammar School in Church Lane, was buzzing when Ledbury Places celebrated the launch of its new oral and visual education display.
Ledbury Places secured a grant to add an oral display bringing its recognition as a Grammar School for over 300 years to life.
The grant from the Association of Independent Museums New Stories New Audiences scheme is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund, thanks to National Lottery players.
Children from the 1st Ledbury Cubs and Ledbury Primary School interviewed local residents about their experiences of school in more recent times.
Also, in the new Cabinet of Curiosities, school log books dating back to the mid-1800s and more recent, can be seen describing daily life at Ledbury Primary School, who have kindly loaned them.
A spokesman for Ledbury Places said: “This has been a really exciting project bringing together our local residents and children to share their recollections on how they were educated and how this has changed to the current day.
"Without both the children and residents this project could not have happened, so a huge thanks goes to all of those who took part. We are also interested in adding local artefacts to our Cabinet of Curiosities, again helping to bring local heritage to life. The school log books are a great example of this”.
The new displays can be seen and heard in the Heritage Centre during the season. Opening times are Thursday & Friday 10.30 – 14.30 and Saturday & Sunday 10.30 – 16.30.
