THE winner of the general election in north Herefordshire has been announced.

Dr Ellie Chowns of the Green Party has taken a majority and won the seat from Sir Bill Wiggin.

The Green Party had chosen north Herefordshire as one of its four priority seats to win, with Dr Chowns.

Sir Bill Wiggin has lost out on holding the seat which he has occupied since 2010, and before that as the Leominster MP since 1997.

Dr Chowns received 21,736 votes, with Sir Bill Wiggin just behind on 15,842 votes.

Andy Dye of Reform UK was in third at 8,048, followed by Jon Browning of Labour on 3,205.

Cat Hornsey of Liberal Democrats and Michael Guest of the Social Democratic Party received the least votes, respectively 1,436 and 95.

In her speech, Chowns thanked her team, her family and all of the voters in north Herefordshire, as well as recognising the other candidates.

She said: "Thank you for your vote of confidence. There is so much work to do, and I promise to work my socks off."
