YOUNGSTERS at John Masefield High School will be giving audiences a peak at a fine life with their production of Oliver! The Musical.

The production, featuring many talented young actors from the school, will hit the stage next month.

In the past, the school has performed many classics such as School of Rock, The Sound of Music, The Addams Family, Guys and Dolls and last year Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

This year, the cast brings to life Lionel Bart’s adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic tale of an orphaned child, ‘Oliver!’.

The production will feature the songs featured in the classic stage play and 1968 film, such as 'It's A Fine Life', 'Food Glorious Food' and 'I'd Do Anything.'

The show stars students Lotte Kroese as Nancy,  Evie Merrick as Oliver, Tilly Ingleton-James as Fagin and Rufus Seabright as the Artful Dodger.

This year's cast is under the direction of Danny Rodgers, who was appointed the school's head of drama last March.

He said: "It has been ten years or so since this production was last performed at John Masefield.

"It is a brilliant musical and is back on the West End so we had to give it another try.

"We started advertising for auditions before the summer break, and over 100 students turned up.

"This production is inclusive for everyone, we have plenty of people working backstage as well, and this year's team is great.

“The children are having a fantastic time rehearsing, they are particularly smashing the performances of Oom-Pah-Pah and Consider Yourself."

The evening performances will take place at 7pm between Thursday and Saturday, February 13 and 15.

There will also be a Matinee performance at 2pm on Saturday.

Mr Rodgers added: "It’s been a joy to watch everyone develop and to see the characters emerge, all the students have really been given a boost by the production.

“We have a really strong cast this year, we are very lucky to have this talented group of students in our production.

"If you’re looking for an evening with a bit of Victorian nostalgia, please come and show your support for the hard work and dedication that has already been enthusiastically given to bring you this wonderful production."

Tickets are £6 for students and £10 for Adults.

The event supports the Theatre Re-development fund.
