A FOOTBALL supporter has appeared at Hereford Magistrates court accused of using threatening and abusive behaviour at a local football match.

Leon Cooke, 38, pleaded not guilty to one charge of using threatening, abusive, insulting words or behaviour, thereby causing a person harassment, alarm or distress at the match on November 8 last year.

The court heard that charges relate to a grandmother and her family attending the match, who cannot be named for legal reasons.

The court was told that Cooke from Kingsway in Hereford is already on conditional bail.

However the prosecution lawyer agreed with his defence counsel that the current conditions were too restrictive.

Those conditions were that he he did not attend any Hereford FC home or away matches, any football matches anywhere in the UK and on days when his team played at home he could not be in the centre of the city at any time between four hours before the match and four hours following the final whistle.

In setting a trial date, magistrates agreed to amend bail conditions with just that he is not allowed to attend any Hereford FC match from now until that date, set for August 24 at 10am.

The court was told that they will try to get the trial set in Hereford, but if that is not possible, then it will be held at Worcester courts.
