A COUPLE who are retiring from pub managing after thirty years and four pubs say it has been a sad decision.

Gale and Charles Duncan started working at The Crown and Anchor pub in Herefordshire in 2017.

After nine years, one month and 11 days, the married couple are saying goodbye.

Mrs Duncan said: "We have been waiting to retire for a while but it is still sad because the customers have been absolutely lovely."

The Duncans moved to Lugwardine to be near their sons, who were both in the army.

"They both now live in Dubai ironically but we will stay local." Mrs Duncan said.

The Crown and Anchor is a Grade II listed black and white timber-framed inn dating from the 17th century.

The pub is located in Lugwardine, to the east of Hereford on the A438 road to Ledbury.

It lies on the north-east bank of the River Lugg, which gives the village its name.

She also described how over the past 9 years they have experienced many changed in the industry.

"Covid changed everything, it really changed peoples habits of coming out." She said.

"I hope that the new owners will be supported by our loyal customers in their new venture."

The couple also expressed their joy of being on the right side of the bar from this point onwards. They said they plan to remain in the area and continue seeing regulars socially.
