A care home resident has celebrated an incredible milestone with her 107th birthday.

Barbara Collcutt marked the occasion on April 1, at Ledbury Nursing Home in Market Street, Ledbury, surrounded by friends, family, and staff.

Her smile lit up the room during the celebrations as everyone joined in to sing a heartfelt Happy Birthday followed by cheers and applause.

One of her favourite musicians then led a lively singalong.

Jane Pye, service manager at the home, said: "We are incredibly proud to be celebrating Barbara’s 107th birthday with her.

"She brings so much warmth and happiness to everyone around her.

"Her positive outlook, gentle nature and wonderful sense of humour continue to inspire us every day.

"It is a privilege to be part of such a special occasion and to share in her remarkable journey."

Born in Wandsworth, London, on April 1, 1919, Ms Collcutt moved to Ledbury Nursing Home in 2023 after spending most of her life in Goring-by-Sea, Sussex.

She grew up in a large, close-knit family with three brothers and one sister, and often reminisces about being teased for her April Fool’s Day birthday.

A lifelong tennis enthusiast, Ms Collcutt played the sport into her 80s and remains a dedicated Wimbledon fan.

She also enjoys painting, reading, and listening to classical music, especially when performed by visiting musicians at the home.

When asked about the secret to her longevity, Ms Collcutt credited her love of ice cream and yoghurt, along with strong family genes, saying: "Both my grandparents lived to a good old age."

Her birthday was described as "a truly memorable occasion, full of music and laughter."

The home is operated by Shaw healthcare, the largest employee-owned care provider in the UK.
