A HERFORDSHIRE primary school affected by a fire is hoping to reopen early next week.
Ledbury Primary School, in Long Acres, has been closed since emergency services were called to the site at around 8.15am on Monday (April 20).
Fire crews attended the scene after reports of a fire in the school’s central electricity board.
Emergency services later confirmed the fire was contained and that no one was injured.
National Grid engineers were also called to the school to make the site safe by isolating the electricity supply, which the company said is standard procedure in situations like this.
National Grid confirmed the issue was linked to the school’s internal electrical equipment and not the wider electricity network.
Earlier on Monday, Ledbury Primary School confirmed the fire had been extinguished but said the school would remain closed until further notice.

The school also thanked emergency services and the local community for their swift response and support.
A Herefordshire Council spokesperson later added: “The fire has been contained, no children are on site and the school is currently closed.
“We are in direct contact with Ledbury Primary School and are providing support as required. The school will update parents and carers with details about re‑opening.”
However, an update received on April 22 suggests the closure may be short‑term.
Simon Burchett, vice chair of governors at Ledbury Primary School, said the school is “hopefully going to open early next week”.
No exact reopening date has yet been confirmed.
Parents and carers are expected to receive further updates directly from the school once reopening arrangements are confirmed.
