THE woman behind a quaint village shop is in the running to be named an unsung hero of the year.
Vic Cooper, the owner of The Shop @ Coo Corner, has been named as a finalist in the 2026 Visit Herefordshire Tourism Awards for both the Unsung Hero of the Year award, and the business has been named as one of five finalists in the Retailer of the Year award.
The gift shop, which opened six years ago, describes itself as an "emporium of delights", selling homeware, clothes, books, and pre-loved items.
Ms Cooper said the award nominations had been a "real boost to my confidence and self-esteem" amid a time when independent retail is "facing so many challenges in the current financial climate".
"Any promotion and awareness given to our independent family-run business is hugely appreciated.
"At Coo Corner, we strive to be much more than a shop. We're a place for the community, championing local makers and designers, while encouraging more sustainable choices through preloved clothing and refillable products.

"We've also become a destination in our own right, offering free on-street parking, great coffee and homemade cakes in a welcoming environment.
"I'm especially proud that our commitment to staying open, supporting our local community and continuing to invest in the visitor experience has been recognised.
"Whatever the outcome, being named a finalist in both categories is a real honour, and I'm incredibly grateful."
74 "outstanding" finalists have been named in this year's awards. Winners are expected to be announced in early 2027.
