THE funeral arrangements for a "legend" who was behind a city fish and chip shop for decades have been announced.

Barry 'Baz' Young, who ran the College Green Chip Shop in Hereford for 38 years, died on August 6.

Mr Young’s funeral will take place at Hereford Crematorium on Saturday, September 19 at 11am.

The family have requested attendees to wear black funeral attire, and have requested family flowers only.

Donations can be made at the funeral service or sent to Shayne Hogg Independent Family Funeral Services.

Paying tribute to her father, Alison Young said he had grown up around fish and chip shops, and honed his craft in several across the city before finding a long-term home at College Green.

The chip shop was truly a family affair, with his wife, daughters, and the late Roy Harper—partner to Alison—all contributing over the years.

Mr Young was known for his community spirit and sense of humour, which made him a well-loved figure in Hereford.

He was also passionate about running and rafting, having taken part in the London Marathon, and was a regular face in many of the city’s pubs.

Ms Young said he was sarcastic, witty, and like a "pillar of strength to the customers", adding that he was focused on the community.
