DYMOCK couple Bob and Chris May have succeeded in cycling the 300 miles from Looe in Cornwall back to their home village, on behalf of their local church.

The £1,500 they raised in sponsorship from their From Looe for a Loo challenge will help p[ay for a toilet for St Mary’s Church.

Mr May said: “We arrived back at the Beauchamp Arms in Dymock at 5.15pm on Sunday, August 3.

“We were weathered but in good spirits.

“I’d like to thank everyone who sponsored us to make this journey. We enjoyed the challenge, the varied company and the places, not to mention a wide variety of loos on route.

“We hope that our loo will become a reality for all to use in the near future.”

The couple took just five days to complete the journey, averaging 60 miles a day.

The route took in winding north Devon lanes, the towpaths of the Grand Western and Bridgewater to Taunton Canals, the Somerset levels, Glastonbury, Wells and Bristol.

The fundraisers enjoyed inspiring views of both the hills of the Cotswolds and May Hill on the final leg.

Mr May said: “The view of May Hill urged us forward with every pedal.”
