WANDERERS travelled to face an unbeaten Golden Valley in the first round of the Lexmond Cup.
Golden Valley started the slightly stronger of the two sides and put Ledbury under pressure but some resolute defending by Dan Reilly and Dion Jenkins ensured the score remained even early on.
Ledbury started to get back into the game and were unlucky to concede a goal from a well-taken near-post corner.
Late on in the first-half, Ledbury were awarded a free-kick some 15 yards from the goalline, captain Charlie White struck a sweet shot and was unlucky to see it rebound off the crossbar.
The second-half was a continuation of the first with both sides playing good football and pressing hard for a goal. The introduction of three Ledbury subs, Law, Cox and Reid, kept up the pressure on Valley but a somewhat hopeful long ball bounced in front of the Ledbury keeper and ended up in the back of his goal, making it 2-0 to Golden Valley.
Both sides continued to battle hard in a very good, fair game but alas the final whistle ended Ledbury’s hopes. Man-of-the-match for Ledbury was Dan Reilly.
