LEDBURY SWIFTS GIRLS u12s 3, HAMPTON DENE GIRLS u12s 1.

SWIFTS travelled to Hampton Dene for a mid-week League Cup quarter-final tie.

The first 10 minutes were evenly matched in terms of chances and both Swifts keeper Lucy Boswell and Hampton Dene’s keeper had to make fine saves.

However, 15 minutes into the game, Swifts broke forward and with a fine goal by Bethany Allcock. Ten minutes inside the second-half a great pass from Bethani Archer Williams was put through to Katy Nash to give her the opportunity to increase the scoreline further with another well-deserved goal.

Hampton Dene kept pressing forward but the midfield and defence of Swifts’ Alice Fleck, Megan Rowland, Charlie Rankin and Emily Paske prevented this.

Swifts went on to score to make it three with another great pass from Bunny Bruton to Allcock for her to score.

With two minutes left, Hampton got a consolation goal.

LEDBURY SWIFTS WANDERERS u11s 4, GORSLEY u11s 2.

WANDERERS had Gorsley visit them for their final game of the season and had the perfect start when captain Charlie White scored in the first minute. The match then continued with both sides having even possession, though Ledbury had the majority of the chances with Charlie Samwells and White coming close to adding to the hosts’ total, though the score remained 1-0 at half-time.

Ledbury started the second-half brightly.

Their pressure paid off when Samwells got Ledbury’s second goal 13 minutes into the half. White then hit the post two minutes later. McCoy Shergill and Liam Cale also pressed forward, and Dion Jenkins had some good attempts with long range shots on goal. Although goalkeeper Ben Read had a relatively quiet afternoon, Gorsley attacked the Ledbury goal and got their first goal 16 minutes after the restart. Ledbury hit back almost immediately with White getting his second goal of the afternoon two minutes later. White got his hat-trick, and Ledbury’s fourth, 23 minutes into the half. The points seemed secure for Ledbury, but Gorsley didn’t give up and they got their second goal two minutes from time.

PEGASUS JUNIORS u11s 1, LEDBURY SWIFTS u11s 3.

AFTER a mid-week 1-1 draw at home to Phoenix, Ledbury went into their final league game of the season hoping to stay unbeaten for the whole season.

The game started with both teams playing some good football on a tight pitch with the defence of Tom Trigg, Max Coleman and Lewis Hammond in control at the back.

But a split second lapse in concentration let in a Pegasus striker to score.

Ledbury’s unbeaten record looked to be in doubt but within 10 minutes of Pegasus scoring Ledbury found themselves level when a Tom Webb shot looked to be put over the line by Harvey Moss and left both players wondering who had scored it.

Minutes after the equaliser some great work down the left-hand side by Craig Pierce led to Moss scoring from close range.

Ledbury used two different goalkeepers during the game, Joe James and Mikey Gouch, as regular keeper Rory Atkins was unavailable and both players had good games.

The game was finally sealed when an outstanding through ball by Jake Robson picked out Webb, who unleashed an unstoppable shot from the edge of the box.

Ledbury finished champions without losing a single game.

Swifts now hope to finish the season in style on Sunday at Hereford United’s Edgar Street ground when they take on Westfields at Edgar Street in the Tony Cole cup final (ko 3pm), hoping to achieve a fantastic league and cup double.
