MORE than 20 former pupils of Ledbury Grammar School enjoyed a walk down memory lane as they met up in the town for the first time in more than 30 years.

After welcome celebrations at the Feathers Hotel the group of 1974-1977 leavers made their way to Church Lane to retrace what was once their daily route to school.

Although the former school site is now in residential use the group was treated to a tour of their old grounds by Nigel Falls, of the Upper Hall management committee.

A particular highlight of the tour was being welcomed by one resident into his home that had previously been used as the school’s sports changing area.

The reunion was organised by Angela Dudley-Warde and Tina Barsack, who spent six months tracking down names and contacts ahead of the event.

Although some still live locally, others travelled from as far afield as Sheffield, Portsmouth and Milton Keynes to take part in the celebrations.

They were joined by their former sports teacher Paul Diggins, who joined them in recounting stories and looking over old school reports and photos.

Mrs Dudley-Warde, who decided to try and organise the reunion after co-ordinating many similar events in her job at Kingswood School in Bath, was delighted with the event. She is now keen to hear from anyone else who would be interested in making future reunions even bigger and better.

“It was a great day of nostalgia and something we hope to build on for the future,” she said.

Anyone interested in taking part in future reunions should search for Ledbury Grammar School on Friends Reunited or Facebook, or call Mrs Dudley-Warde at Kingswood School.
