Engineering continues to play a central role in Worcestershire’s economy. The Tomorrow’s Engineers Week campaign, taking place next week, will showcase how engineering affects us all in our day to day lives.

Tomorrow’s Engineers Week runs from Monday to Friday, November 4-8, and is set to feature engineers from a range of backgrounds who help to make a positive difference to people’s health and wellbeing. The campaign will also provide a fantastic opportunity for the engineering community to work together to inspire the next generation of engineers.

As we have so many professional engineering institutions, engineering employers and individual engineers based in Worcestershire, I hope to see lots of people participating in the campaign and showcasing why Worcestershire is such an excellent location for engineering.

The easiest way to get involved is via social media, where you can post using the hashtag #TEWeek19

This a particularly exciting time for engineering in Worcestershire, as last week saw the launch of the Heart of Worcestershire College’s new Duckworth Centre of Engineering. The centre will provide training for automotive, plumbing & heating engineering students with dedicated workshops and classrooms on site.

We know that local and national demand for these skills is growing and we’ve therefore invested a total of £4,010,000 into the new state of the art engineering centre, which will help local businesses to tackle the engineering skills shortage. I think this high level of demand was reflected in the significant number of local businesses that attended the launch of the facility.

Improving the skills and training of our local learners and apprentices continues to be central in boosting economic growth across the county.
