ELIZABETH Barrett Browning was the subject of a talk given to the Worcestershire branch of the English Speaking Union, which took place at the Worcestershire Golf Club, in Malvern.
Speaker Jan Long, of Bromsberrow, explained that there was a very local angle.
Elizabeth Moulton Barrett was born in County Durham but moved to Hope End, near Ledbury, as a very young child.
She remained there for many years, writing some of her most brilliant poetry.
In acknowledging Mrs Long's talk, Sonia Chance, Chairman of the ESU Worcestershire Branch, said: "Everyone really enjoyed it and learned so much about our local poet who in fact 'took the waters' in Malvern when she was ill."
Donations at the event went to the Nepal Fund, and £85 was raised.
