RESIDENTS in Matchborough are being warned they face a "fair amount" of disruption as work starts to make the area safer.

The hope is that the work, in Clifton Close, will help improve the safety of the area as well as improve parking and facilities.

It is part of Redditch Borough Council’s public realm improvements scheme which first began in 2009.

Residents are being warned they may see a fair amount of disruption as the teams develop the new parking area.

Councillor Brandon Clayton, whose portfolio covers Environmental Services, said: “We apologise for the disruption caused to residents whilst the work takes place but it is essential in order to alleviate ongoing parking issues and improve the safety and security of the area.

“There is a demand for more parking and the many of the garages are in poor condition and a target for anti-social behaviour. We will continue to undertake this work to benefit the residents of Clifton Close.

“After nine years the council’s improvement scheme is still going strong and we will continue to make these kinds of enhancements in more locations around the borough.”

Residents from the close were consulted on the proposals and work will be starting week commencing October 22.

The work will take three weeks to complete.

Alongside general landscaping and resurfacing improvements 12 extra parking spaces are being created as a result of 12 garages being knocked down.
