RENOWNED music producer Pete Waterman OBE has written a personal tribute to accompany a unique Kidderminster concert commemorating 100 years since the end of the First World War.

Mr Waterman was named honorary president of Kidderminster Male Choir last month and has shown his support for their ambitious show in November.

The choir’s show at Kidderminster Town Hall will start at 11pm on Saturday, November 10 and will continue through to 12.30am the following morning.

In the preface of the concert programme, Mr Waterman has described how his paternal Grand Father was gassed at the Battle of Ypres in World War 1.

The choir will sing a host of songs to reflect the occasion and also plan to re-enact the famous 1914 Christmas Truce moment when German troops sang the most famous of carols ‘Silent Night’ in their native tongue and the Allies responded in English.

The concert will also feature Bewdley based four-piece singing group Berkley Square.

There will be a two-minute remembrance silence at 11.59pm to 12.01am which will see the lowering of the military standards and the reciting of the epitaph from the poem ‘For the Fallen’.

A Kidderminster Male Choir spokesman said: “The whole concert will be a unique preparation for the very special tributes that will be paid on Sunday November 11 2018 to all who served.

“Kidderminster Male Choir were eager to commemorate this very special year and offer our heartfelt thanks to all who served.

“However, given that there will be many services and offerings of remembrance over the weekend, we decided that we didn’t want to clash with the Royal Albert Hall event on November 10 or any of the November 11 services so we chose this unique time to holds our own tribute.

“We are extremely pleased that ‘Berkeley Square’ are able to join us and bring their stunning vocals to the concert.”
