Sir – Despite having given items every week to the local foodbank, I had many reservations about the usefulness of the exercise (as a pensioner, the donations make quite a dent in my pension).
I arranged a visit intending to look around and ask some fairly pointed questions.
I was made welcome and given a guided tour of the large building by one of the many foodbank volunteers, all of whom give their time and effort without financial reward.
The manager, Grahame Lucas, took time to resolve all my queries in full without hesitation.
The clients are genuine and are treated with courtesy and compassion.
Most supermarkets support the foodbank scheme (and have up-to-date requirements lists), so why not buy an extra item when shopping and drop it in the collection bin – it will be an enormous help.
