REG the ram has escaped the butcher’s slab and will live out the rest of his life at a rescue farm near Cleobury Mortimer.

Goodheart Animal Sanctuaries, at Milson welcomed a very special arrival.

Reg the ram arrived at the sanctuary, based near Cleobury Mortimer, after his bid to escape slaughter saw his take refuse in a school playground at Chandling in Oxfordshire.

The plucky ram escaped en-route to the abattoir and fled to safety in the grounds of a local school.

Teachers at the school then contacted the farmer who didn’t want Reg back.

With staff and pupils desperate to save Reg from slaughter, it was all hands-on deck to find him a safe home.

Luckily for Reg, Goodheart Animal Sanctuaries was able to offer him a home at their sanctuary. The lucky ram will now live out his days at Goodheart Animal Sanctuaries’ 91-acre site, which is home to over 220 rescued, abused and abandoned animals.

“Reg is settling in well and is a real character,” said sanctuary manager Dave Bourne.

“As we suspected, he is something of an escape artist, but he is most certainly enjoying sanctuary life. After monitoring him to make sure he’s fit and well, Reg will be introduced to our mixed flock of larger sheep.”

Asked how she felt knowing Reg will live out his days at the sanctuary, Ms Finneron added: “It’s amazing he’ll get this opportunity. It’s a lovely ending to his story.”
