A POSTMISTRESS in Malvern will be running the London Marathon later this year to raise money for a spinal research charity.

Jenny Cain, who runs the Barnards Green Post Office in Court Road, and also sits on Malvern Town Council, hopes to raise £1,800 or more for Spinal Research by taking part in the event on Sunday, April 28.

And as part of her fundraising, she is holding a charity evening at a local pub next month.

She said: “As a keen runner, I have done six half-marathons but never a full one, and it has always been a dream of mine to do this ever since I stood at the start line for the first one when I was eight.

“It has been inspired by a friend’s son who received much-needed support and guidance from Spinal Research, when he was operated on for a cyst that ran the length of his spinal cord. Five years later, he is still undergoing rehabilitation but can walk and do most normal everyday activities. But three people each day are not quite so lucky, and told they will never walk again.”

Jenny is holding a fundraiser at the Morgan pub, in Clarence Road, on Friday, February 8, from 7pm, with live music, disco, auction and raffle, and needs local companies to donate auction and raffle prizes.
