MALVERN College has been named one of the best wedding venues in the UK in a national award scheme.

The Victorian school building has become increasingly popular for wedding ceremonies in recent years.

Now it has been shortlisted for Best Historic Wedding Venue by the UK Wedding Awards 2019, alongside famous landmarks such as Hampton Court Palace, Leeds castle and the Royal Liver Building.

Nicky Cullity, the college's weddings and events manager, said: “We’re utterly thrilled to be shortlisted for this award. We’re particularly honoured as Malvern College is matched against the likes of Hampton Court Palace in this category.

“The main reasons for couples choosing to marry here are the beautiful surroundings, stunning grounds, excellent service and the magnificent Malvern Hills rising in the backdrop."

The college’s main building, which was built in 1862 by architect Charles Hansom, houses the grand hall, known as Big School. The space boasts vaulted ceilings and arched leaded windows and is licensed for wedding ceremonies.

The school’s Grade II listed memorial library is also used for weddings. This building was designed by Sir Aston Webb, who designed the the Victoria and Albert Museum, the main facade of Buckingham Palace and Admiralty Arch in London.

Voting is open to the public and will close on Wednesday, February 13. To vote, visit hitched.co.uk/awards/vote/#Best-Historic-Wedding-Venue.
