CONCERNED residents are calling for speed cameras to be installed on a busy road in Stourport, after a car crashed into a little boy's bedroom.

The collision in Ribbesford Drive, which saw the driver of the car and a passenger hospitalised, has prompted calls for a review into speed enforcement provision on the adjacent Lickhill Road.

Jacqui Bryan, who lives at the property which suffered around £20,000 worth of damage in the crash, said the road has got busier since she moved to the area two years ago.

"At night we can hear people racing down the road," she said. "The community centre is right there and the new play area so there are always young people and families crossing the road, or people walking their dogs.

"A sign reminding people that it's 30mph isn't going to do anything. We need bumps or a speed camera.

"The side of our house has suffered a lot of damage but at the end of the day it's just bricks. We need to keep Stourport families safe."

Former resident David Pitt said the community had been calling for speed cameras on the road since he lived on the estate 35 years ago.

Another poster on Facebook said drivers often use the road as a 'racetrack'.

A spokesman for the Safer Roads Partnership, which deals with speed cameras in the area, said officers would be collecting data at the scene to determine whether speeding was an issue.

They said: "We’re aware of the collision, which is currently under investigation.

"We will be collecting speed data in the area to determine if there is a significant speeding issue.

"If there is, we will work with our partner agencies and the safer neighbourhood team to explore options.”
