VANDALS who caused substantial damage to vehicles parked at a second-hand car lot have been labelled “idiots” by the business owner.

Droitwich police have shared CCTV footage in the hopes identifying two people at The Car Lot, in St George’s Square, in the early hours of Sunday morning (January 20).

Business owner and manager Kush Datta said the culprits had gained access to several vehicles, including a Range Rover where they smashed a satnav unit worth £1,000.

The 38-year-old businessman, who took over the firm four years ago, said a FIAT Punto was also pushed into a Ford Focus amongst other acts of “pointless vandalism”.

“Basically, at 3am on Sunday, two teenagers, one male and one female, have entered the lot and were roaming around,” said Mr Datta.

“They’ve got into some of the cars and vandalised inside the cars. They’ve trashed them. They pushed one car into another car.”

The businessman said he believes he knows who the two offenders are, who he said are youths that “keep roaming around the area, trying to break into vehicles” on a night.

He said forensic officers have been down to the site to collect finger prints and other evidence.

“We work hard here seven days a week – something like this is just pointless vandalism,” he added.

The CCTV footage shows one person, who appears to be a male in a hooded jacket closing the door of a black Range Rover, while the other, seemingly a female, puts up her hood.

PC Tony Carter, the officer in charge of the investigation, said: “We have had some positive information from the video posted and are following active lines of enquiry.

“This is an ongoing investigation so I can’t comment any further,” he added.

A post accompanying the CCTV footage on the Droitwich Cops Facebook page, refers to the suspects as “unknown” and says they have “caused considerable damage to a number of cars” at the business.

PC Carter has also encouraged members of the public who have further information to contact police by calling 101 and citing reference number 194S 200119.
