RESTAURANT workers will be distributing food to the homeless tonight.
Staff from Balti Mahal are offering the food as part of a project called Local Love to tackle homelessness in the city.
Mazedul Hasan Shakil and his uncle, Saiful Islam, will be serving traditional Biryani dishes to the homeless community, near Crowngate Shopping Centre and the river Severn, between 5pm and 6pm.
Mr Shakil said: “We are aware there is an increase of homelessness in the city, which is very saddening. We want to set an example for others to follow by our project Local Love. We must unite together to tackle homelessness. We are hoping to serve around 20 to 30 people.
He added: “Local Love is about creating love between businesses and people from Worcester to work together to make the city a safe harmonious place. We are so blessed to have a roof over our head and food on the table, which we take for granted. We must take a step back and understand, we have poverty near us.”
“Homeless people are vulnerable and have no voice, therefore, it is our duty to support them in whatever way possible. Their voice must be heard. We must unite together to create love in this community regardless of social status, race, gender, identity.”
