PHILIP Dunne MP signed the Holocaust Educational Trust’s Book of Commitment, pledging his commitment to Holocaust Memorial Day and honouring those murdered during the Holocaust - as well as paying tribute to extraordinary survivors who work tirelessly to educate young people today.

Holocaust Memorial Day is marked each year on 27th January, the anniversary of the liberation of the former Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau.

In the lead up to Holocaust Memorial Day, thousands of commemorative events are arranged by schools, faith groups and community organisations across the country, remembering all victims of the Holocaust and subsequent genocides.

“Holocaust Memorial Day is an important opportunity for people from south Shropshire and across the country to reflect on the tragic events of the Holocaust – made all the more important by the appalling resurgence of open anti-Semitism ,” said Mr Dunne.

“My visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau some years ago with two students from the constituency, thanks to the Holocaust Educational Trust, made a deep and lasting impression on us.

“As the Holocaust moves from living history to history, it becomes ever more important that we take time to remember the victims and pay tribute to the few survivors. I encourage constituents to support such an important day.”
