I read the letter headed “Unlikely” in last week’s Hereford Times, and was astonished that anyone could be surprised by any utterance made by Polly Andrews.

On two occasions, when I was a trustee and treasurer of the South Wye Community Association: the charity which owns and manages the Belmont Community Centre, she exhibited the delusion that she owned the Association’s property. Quite clearly she did not, and the Association had the relevant Land Registry documents to prove otherwise. Several letters from the Association’s solicitor to Mrs Andrew’s solicitor, enclosing these relevant land registry documents failed to dispel this fanciful idea, and she pursued her notion for several months. Her last missive on the subject caused much amusement. It was a three or four line letter from her solicitor purporting to enclose the definitive document offering absolute proof that her claim was substantiated, and an invitation to the trustees of SWCA to endorse and return it immediately.

The document in question comprised a piece of scrap paper, with two or three heavily drawn lines on it, made with a black, felt tipped pen. In blue Biro, Belmont Centre was written on one side of the document, and Belmont  Medical Centre on the other. No more, no less!

I asked the Association’s solicitor what should be done with it, and he returned my question, to which I replied, “Put it in the waste bin”.

The Association heard nothing further from Mrs Andrews, and undoubtedly is still waiting for her apology for wasting the Association’s time, and her cheque for £400 to recompense the Association’s  solicitor’s fees.

My advice to anyone reading or hearing Mrs Andrews' alleged remark about the SAS is ….“Put it in the waste bin”.
