PUPILS at St Mary’s Catholic Primary School in Evesham have been studying the topic Walls And Barricades.

Learning for Year Six pupils has included studying the history of actual walls and barricades, including Hadrian’s Wall, the Great Wall of China and the Berlin Wall, as well as gaining a better understanding of social barriers that exist, including learning about the impact of Apartheid on the life of South Africans.

They have also had the chance to learn about graffiti art and the work of artists such as Banksy, then they had a go at creating their own graffiti ‘tags’, which now adorn the walls of their classroom.

St Mary’s has introduced a new curriculum this year; both pupils and staff have really enjoyed their learning and teaching of topics ranging from Get Out Of My Swamp in Year 1 – focusing on mapping skills and a variety of traditional tales – to Crime And Punishment in Year 4, and Yes Minister in Year 6, with a focus on Parliament, the making of our country’s laws.
