A VETERAN runner from Wolverley is ecstatic after being chosen to represent England in a 10K race next month.

Octogenarian Lindsay Pulley, aged 81, received the call from England Athletics to represent his country as part of their Masters Team, after qualifying in the Chester 10km race held on March 10.

Lindsay will now don an England strip for the Great Birmingham Run, which will take place on Sunday May 26.

The long-time runner has taken part in hundreds of runs and races, including the London Marathon in 1982, and also founded the Amazing Feet Running Club in Kidderminster.

Lindsay is currently a member of the Cleobury Mortimer Running Club, and he also volunteers at local park runs, training every weekend.

The runner said: "I never dreamed that I would get a letter from England Athletics.

"Now, I cannot wait to get my England strip - I am so excited about it.

"Cleobury Mortimer Running Club has helped me to improve my pace at 81 and I am so impressed.

"My fitness levels are amazing, I have benefitted from the club and I hope I continue to.

"My wife said this is the second time I have been called up for England, the first time being for my National Service.

"I am so grateful that I have been able to do this at my age."

Lindsay also runs regularly with his nine-year-old grandson Maxwell, who is non-verbal.

He added: "Maxwell is my inspiration - I love him, he's a beautiful boy, and he helps to keep me fit."
