THE hit BBC radio comedy series, Radio Active, will be revived live on the stage of The Artrix, in Bromsgrove.

Angus Deayton, Helen Atkinson Wood, Michael Fenton Stevens and Philip Pope will reunite to take classic scripts from the award-winning BBC Radio 4 show Radio Active to the Artrix this Thursday, May 9.

A spokesman said: “ Radio Active comes to Bromsgrove as part of a nationwide tour, following a sell-out and critically acclaimed run at Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Radio Active comes to Bromsgrove as part of a nationwide tour, following a sell-out and critically acclaimed run at Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

“Among other classic characters expect to catch up with long suffering radio host Mike Channel, original foodie Anna Daptor, and the accident-prone Martin Brown, as well as the cast’s original musical creations, responsible for such parody bands as The Hee Bee Gee Bees and Status Quid.”

Can it really be 40 years since the show first enjoyed its stage debut, before moving on to the radio?

Well, undoubtedly. But the belly laughs are sure to be just as loud.

Radio Active rapidly became a cult classic during the 1980s, especially with students and young people.

The first series went out as far back as the 1980s and the show ran for seven series.

The premise of the show is that a fictional station, Radio Active - often a hapless, insensitive and rather unprofessional outfit, is broadcasting to the general public.

But listeners were also given insights into the tensions that existed between the staff, adding another tier of humour.

In 2014, Angus Deayton said a revival of the show would be "awkward" without Geoffrey Perkins, who died in 2008, although he added "never say never"; and now a stage version is touring.

Tickets for Radio Active at Artrix on Thursday 9 May at 7.30pm are £20 each.
