THE news Worcester's HMV store is now set to shut its doors is a big blow for the city centre.

Of course it won't come as shock to many after the firm fell into administration just after Christmas. There did look brighter days ahead for the branch though, when new owners Sunrise said it was not on their list for closure earlier this year.

But obviously that has changed now, and music lovers will be gutted to see the dreaded closing down signs in the windows.

It is disappointing when any store closes in our city. But after the loss of the independent music store Rise last year, it means the options to be able to walk into a shop and buy physical media, like music and movies, are rapidly running out.

People say it is a sign of the times as the move to going digital and the decline of physical media just continues at pace. But surely there will always be a need for some kind of way to purchase entertainment and be able to enjoy it or give it as a gift.

So I hope we get a replacement HMV or Rise-style shop back in the city centre soon.
