MALVERN's football community is coming together for a young boy who suffered from a brain tumour.

In April, the Malvern Gazette reported that a fundraiser is being organised by the family of seven-year-old Alfie Orton, who suffered a brain tumour and underwent eight hours of brain surgery.

May 26 will mark the two- year anniversary of when Alfie was first rushed to Accident and Emergency under the assumption he had sustained a concussion after a bump to the head.

An MRI scan revealed that the actual cause of his headaches was a brain tumour, and, less than 24 hours later having been transferred to BCH, little Alfie, who is now aged seven, underwent his brain surgery.

On May 17, the local football community is coming together with friends of the family and representatives of Bransford Badgers joined by Newton Sports and Welland Juniors Football Clubs at Malvern Town Football Club for a series of junior and adult fun matches to support Alfie and his family.

Alfie’s mum, Roxanne Hill, 30, and grandmother, Tracy, 51, both from Worcester, will be taking part in the SimplyHealth Birmingham 10k Great Run, on Sunday, May 26. The run winds its way through Birmingham, going past famous sights such as the Bullring and Birmingham Cathedral.

Runners will also pass the Birmingham Children’s Hospital, which Roxanne and Tracy are raising money for.

Roxanne said: “In the scariest time of our lives, Birmingham Children’s Hospital were our rock and made us feel safe and secure with the treatment they gave our son, and we will be eternally grateful for everything they have done and continue to do for us.

“Whilst they have set themselves the target of raising £500, the four local football clubs have decided to put their collective fundraising weight behind smashing that total for them.”

The fundraiser starts at 6pm on May 17 and food and refreshments will be available throughout the evening.

There will be junior matches and an adult charity match between select sides made up of Malvern Town FC players and Bransford Badgers players at 7.30pm.
