COOKLEY has been decorated with flower-filled bras and more in an effort to stun judges during their bid to win a national competition.

Britain in Bloom judges visited this village this morning (Monday, June 1) to see a host of flower arrangements and horticultural delights, which included 22 'braskets.'

After a successful year in 2018, winning the Royal Horticultural Society's Outstanding achievement award and silver-gilt medal, the Cookley in Bloom team are eager to impress and are going for gold.

Amanda Huxtable, a member of the organising team, said: "It's the most amazing thing that's happening here. We have flower banks, a community garden, and of course the 'braskets.'

"The people of Cookley have all come together and have worked so hard to make the place so beautiful."

The judges started their visit at the allotments on Lionfields Road this morning, before walking through the village to see the numerous displays.

The party will end their visit at the Cookley Sports Club for refreshments.

The 'braskets' turned a few heads in the village this morning, and briefly stopped traffic as curious drivers took in the sights.

The bras were created for the event to symbolise breast cancer awareness, and were made by a team of women from Cookley WI.

Amanda added: "We wanted a display that would stop people and make an impact.

"They have been a real showstopper."

The results of Britain in Bloom 2019 will be announced in Autumn time.
