FUN in the sun is expected when thousands of people pack Sanders Park and its surrounding areas for the annual Bromsgrove Carnival this weekend.

Temperatures in the mid-20s are expected with forecasters predicting minimal chances of rain.

The fun begins on Friday evening (July 12) with an outdoor showing of Queen film Bohemian Rhapsody.

Doors open at 8pm and there will be live music from 8.30pm, with the film starting at 9.30pm.

Admission is free but organisers are suggesting a £3 donation to charity.

Parking will be accessible from Whitford Road and will be right next to the screen, with a £2 charge, again going to charity.

The majority of the carnival festivities take place on Saturday (July 13), beginning with the spectacular carnival procession through the town and out to Sanders Park.

The parade starts at North Bromsgrove High School at noon and back by popular demand are the carnival floats.

As well as the lorries, there are marching bands and many organisations choose to enter as a walking group.

The groups represent the Bromsgrove community ranging from schools to charities, local businesses to youth groups.

In Sanders Park, Wilson’s funfair will be in full swing providing thrills and excitement for those of a more daring disposition.

There is a music stage with a full programme of acts throughout the day, and a range of stalls, shows and activities.

To finish off the day, local athletes will be tackling the challenging Timberhonger 10k and children’s challenge fun run.

More than 800 runners are expected to take on the races this year to be rewarded with their specially commissioned race medals and, for over-18s, a refreshing Timberhonger 10k beer.

The event is non-profit making with all proceeds being donated to local charities and good causes.

This year they will be supporting Primrose Hospice, Libby Mae’s Little Angels, and the Midland Air Ambulance.
