BEWDLEY Festival will welcome the sculptor of an art memorial to drumming legend John Bonham at this year's event.

Mark Richards paid tribute to the drummer, famous for his powerhouse performances as part of rock phenomenon Led Zeppelin, with his memorial sculpture which was unveiled in Redditch town centre last year.

The sculptor will talk at this year's Bewdley Festival on Tuesday, October 15 at 2.30pm in Bewdley Baptist Church.

He will discuss not just his Bonham creation, but also touch on the many commissions he has been involved in, working for the Royal Family and many more people.

Mark is a sculptor specialising in fine figurative work, brought up in the tradition of architectural sculpture, with a focus on commissioned public art.

He was taught by A J Ayres who in turn had worked with Eric Gill and other well-known exponents of this tradition.

In his talk, Richards will run through how the design developed and the challenges the commission presented, and will be an insight into what went on behind the scenes of what is now widely considered to be one of the most original memorials in the world.

Tickets for the event cost £10, and can be purchased online via, or from Festival Office in St Georges Hall.
